gee bee racer. this airplane was custom built in 1931 specifically as a racer. this airplane was basically a huge engine with a stick and a seat behind it. the gee bee was made by the granville bros in springfield mass. it won every race it ever flew in. however after some refinements the plane crashed in a speed record attempt killing it`s pilot. it soon became know as the widow maker. the gee bee sported a 535 horse power pratt and whitney engine and was capable of speeds of 260 plus mph. it had a wingspan of just over 23 feet. our model of this true aviation icon is very colorful. made with wood frame covered with a stretched silk cloth cockpit shield decals down to the smallest details intricate engine design with metal detail metal cowling around engine comes fully assembled colors are red and white size is 17.75 inches long by 23.5 inch wingspan and 8.25 inches tall
